La Cenerentola at the National Opera Bucharest / Zagreb
After more than one year of preperation, the first co production of National Opera Bucharest and National Theatre Zagreb took place. The production of Rossinis “La Cenerentola” was realized with an international team. The conductor in Bucharest was Adrian Morar from Rumania, in Zagreb Gianluca Marciano from Italy was the conductor. Peter Pawlik was the director in both opera houses, his team was completed with Vesna Rezic, set design, and Barbara Bourek, costume design.
The production shows the piece in a modern way, but does not loose the fairytale-character of the story. After the curtain goes up, the verve and comical play is immediately obvious. Especially the choir brings joyful moments to the scene. Altogether the production was very much appreciated by the audience in Bucharest and Zagreb.

„L’italiana in Algeri“ - Two successful premieres at the Balkan 2007
CEE Musiktheater supported the successful premieres in Macedonia and Serbia in springtime 2007. The association was founded by the Deutsche Bank Foundation, the Republic of Austria and the Vienna State Opera. It is a particular target to support the dialogue between the several cultures. This succeeded with the ongoing co-production of “L’italiana in Algeri” by G. Donizetti.
This project was the first artistic cooperation of the Opera in Skopje ( Macedonia) and Belgrade ( Serbia). The title role was played by the Serbian artist Sanja Anastasijevic. It was the first time for her to perform together with Macedonian singers on the stage of the Opera House Skopje. The artists of the several countries worked together in a team with the stage director Mrs. Uschi Horner (from Austria), who showed much engagement to realize the project. Also the professionalismand openness to new experiences of the singers was a basic point to make great performances.
Stage designer Mrs. Martina Segna (from Italy) and costume designer Mrs. Marija Pupuchevska (from Macedonia) completed the team of the production of “L’italiana in Algeri”. Together they tried to explain the young singers contemporary forms of acting and directing to create a harmonic, modern and surprising production. After the intensive rehearsals the successful premieres took place in Skopje on the 9 th May 2007 and in Belgrade on the 13 th of June 2007, where also scholarship holders of CEE Musiktheater showed their ability.
Special thanks go to the Austrian companies Verbund (Österreichische Elektrizitätswirtschafts AG), Vienna International Airport and EVN Austria/Macedonia, who supported the co-production of the operas next to the three main sponsors.

National Opera Bucharest and Timisoara
“Le Nozze di Figaro“ – the successful premiere in Bucharest and Timisoara
“Le nozze di Figaro” was the second opera of Mozart which was supported by CEE Musiktheater, after the performances of “The Magic Flute” in Skopje and Sofia. The finishing of the production was well timed with the end of the Mozart-year and shortly before the entry of Rumania to the EU. In May 2007 series of performances of this production will start at the National Opera Timisoara.
The goals of the production of “Le nozze di Figaro”:
The Opera House Bucharest celebrated its 85 th anniversary in December, the year of Mozart was ending and the day of the premiere (the 1 st of December 2006) was also the national holiday of Rumania.
The Opera House wanted to produce a performance with focus of Scholarship holders of CEE Musiktheater. All roles with the exception of Antonio and Susanna (Laura Tatulescu, Vienna State Opera) where sung by young singers of CEE, who come from Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Albania and Moldavia. Alexander Radulescu was the stage director of “Le nozze di Figaro”, who graduated at the “Akademie Musiktheater Heute”, which is also supported by one of the main sponsors of CEE Musiktheater, “Deutsche Bank Foundation”. The costumes and stage were designed by Adriana Urmuzescu and the conductor of the Opera House Timisoara David Crescenzi was the musical director for this production.
The intensely work at the Summer Academy “Heiligenkreuz” and 4 weeks of rehearsals allowed a harmonious and exciting performance. Especially the 4 th scene was honoured by the audience because of the arias of Marcellina and Basilio.
The main sponsors of CEE Musiktheater were the Republic of Austria, “Deutsche Bank Foundation” and special thanks go to “American Express Stiftung”, who sponsored next to the production of “Le nozze di Figaro” the Summer Academy “Heiligenkreuz”.

Opera House Skopje & Opera House Sofia
Standing Ovations at the premiere of „The Magic Flute“ on the 17 th of February 2006 at the Opera House Skopje, Macedonia.
The first Co-production, which was initiated and supported by CEE Musiktheater, was successful at the Macedonian Opera House in Skopje. Because of the Co-production of the Macedonian Opera House and the National Opera House Sofia, the opera “The Magic Flute” of W. A. Mozart was taking place for the first time after 54 years of absence in Macedonia. The technical and organizational problems were removed at the pre-working of the production team from Austria and Macedonia in the Opera House Skopje, in order to realise this production. The premiere was visited by high-ranking persons and the Macedonian audience was enthusiastic. The Macedonian Newspaper “Dnevnik” wrote after the premiere: “Foreign ambassadors, domestic politicians, business people and artists applauded long after this great performance.” This terrific creation was realised by an excellent team of authors from Austria: Angela Zabrsa (stage director), Anna Katharina Strobl (set design and costumes), Wolfgang von Zoubek (lightdesign and stage design). Also the Orchestra of the Macedonian National Theatre, all soloists of the younger generation and the choir were exquisite. “The conductor Borjan Canev was also involved in the success of the performance”, entitled Taburovski from the Macedonian Newspaper VEST.
CEE Musiktheater attended the production with financial support, they organised coaching’s for the singers and bought lightening material for the stage.
The Magic Flute was a basic extension of the repertoire of the Opera House in the year of Mozart 2006. “The premiere was an important cultural event for our country” - was the title of the Macedonian Newspaper Utrinski Vesnik.
It was worth to make the effort: Mozart’s interpretation of wisdom and beauty was illustrated with image-projections, which turned out well. The transfer of Know-how and techniques will strengthen the Opera House in Skopje, where the employees earn 150 Euro per month. Co-productions like “The Magic Flute” should show the singers more perspectives in their own countries, to slow down the migration. 5 years ago Macedonia was at the egde of a civil war with the ethnic group of Albania. “The Magic Flute”, Mozarts message of tolerance, is also showing the political progress of Macedonia on the way to a stabile country”, wrote Wehrschütz in the newspaper “Wiener Zeitung”.
